Jacques Rueff

Jacques Rueff (1896–1978) was a French economist, financial official, and member of the Mont Pèlerin Society who documented that central banks in the countries afflicted by hyperinflation after World War I (France, Italy, Germany, Poland, and Austria) had used the newly created money mainly to finance budget deficits. Under President Charles de Gaulle after World War II he directed the stabilization of the French franc, and later recorded his views in The Monetary Sin of the West (1971). He advocated a return to the gold standard and was a persistent critic of John Maynard Keynes.
