Ludwig M. Lachmann

Ludwig Lachmann (1906–1990) was a German-born economist who earned his doctorate at Humboldt University Berlin and was drawn to the Austrian School, and to Carl Menger particularly, during a summer at the University of Zurich in 1926. He emigrated to England in 1933, studying and later working under Friedrich Hayek at the London School of Economics, before taking a professorship at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg (1948–1972). From 1974 to 1987 he collaborated with Israel Kirzner at New York University, running an annual seminar reviving interest in the Austrian School, and developed a radical subjectivism questioning the informational role of prices.
