Max Eastman (1883–1969) was an American writer, poet, and prominent political activist. Initially a leading patron of radical causes and a supporter of socialism, his experiences in the Soviet Union led him to become a vocal critic of communism and a defender of free-market economics. He is best known for his later work, Reflections on the Failure of Socialism.
