Richard Cantillon (1680–1734) was an Irish-French economist and banker. He is best known for his posthumously published Essai sur la Nature du Commerce en Général (Essay on the Nature of Trade in General), a foundational text in political economy that heavily influenced the development of classical economics and the Austrian School.
