Roger W. Garrison (1944–2026) was an American economist born in Joplin, Missouri, who worked as an Air Force officer and systems engineer before turning to economics, earning his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia in 1981 under Leland Yeager. He taught macroeconomics and monetary theory at Auburn University from 1978 until his retirement, developing capital-based macroeconomics, a graphical synthesis of Hayek’s structure-of-production triangle and Rothbard’s intertemporal market diagram that made Austrian business cycle theory teachable alongside standard macroeconomics textbooks. His Time and Money: The Macroeconomics of Capital Structure (2001) won the Smith Prize for the Advancement of Austrian Economics, and he served as the first Hayek Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics in 2003. He died in Auburn, Alabama, six days after his 82nd birthday.
