Letters that Lord Acton wrote to Bishop Mandell Creighton in 1887, first printed in 1904 in the biography of Creighton. In them Acton gives his famous judgment that power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely, and argues that historians must apply the same moral standards to great men as to anyone else.
