Eduard Braun builds a theory of capital that is at the same time a theory of capitalism. Drawing on the Historical and Institutional Schools, Carl Menger and Ludwig von Mises, he argues that capital is best understood through the institutions of economic calculation that organise the allocation and distribution of resources in a market economy.
He contends that proposals to reform those institutions make little sense when they rest on a theory of capital that ignores them. The book is part of the Routledge Frontiers of Political Economy series and is published open access.
