“Many doctors plan to quit or cut back: survey”
—November 17, 2008426
A survey of 12,000 general practice physicians revealed that 60 percent of respondents would not recommend medicine as a career due to the long hours, stress, and paperwork. 78 percent of doctors surveyed believe there is a shortage of primary care physicians. Yet none apparently pointed to the AMA as the reason. This is likely because they don’t understand that it is the AMA’s policies of limiting the supply of doctors in the name of “safety” that causes the shortage and their stressful lives. Nearly half of all doctors plan to cut back on how many patients they see or quit medicine entirely (which will drive medical costs higher). A common reason cited is the amount of paperwork they must comply with. In other words, regulation is harming them and will harm their patients even more than it currently does when they reduce the number of patients they will see.
