Spooner's 1850 pamphlet defending fugitive slaves and those who help them against the Fugitive Slave Acts. He argues that slavery is contrary to natural law and to the Constitution, that the acts are therefore void, and that jurors and citizens have a right and a duty to resist them. It is one of his major antislavery legal arguments.
