Hans-Hermann Hoppe is an Austrian School economist and libertarian/anarcho-capitalist philosopher. He is professor of economics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a distinguished fellow with the Ludwig von Mises Institute, founder and president of the Property and Freedom Society, and editor-at-large of the Journal of Libertarian Studies.

He was born on September 2, 1949, in Peine, Germany. He attended the Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken, the Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt/M., and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, for studies in philosophy, sociology, history, and economics. He earned his Ph.D. (philosophy 1974) and his “Habilitation” (sociology and economics, 1981), both from the Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt/M.

Professor Hoppe is the author of Handeln und Erkennen (1976); Kritik der kausalwissenschaftlichen Sozialforschung (1983); Eigentum, Anarchie und Staat (1987); Theory of Socialism and Capitalism (1988); The Economics and Ethics of Private Property (1993; 2nd ed. 2006); Democracy-The God That Failed (2001); The Myth of National Defense (2003); and numerous articles on philosophy, economics, and the social sciences.
